ISO 45001
Every day, workers across the globe are killed or injured as a result of workplace accidents. Many employers don't pay attention to safety and health at work despite the fact the majority of these accidents can be prevented. This is why implementing an OH&S management system is crucial. The new ISO 45001 standard provides an excellent framework for establishing and maintaining these systems.
The ISO 45001 standard uses the same high-level structure as other management systems standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 making it easier to implement and integrate. It also takes into account that OH&S requirements vary from industry to industry. Construction workers, for example have different OH&S requirements than those who work in pharmaceuticals. The standard allows companies to develop a plan that is suited to their specific needs.
While achieving certification is not obligatory, it is an excellent way to demonstrate your company's commitment to worker safety and security. It can also improve your company's reputation and boost its image as an ethical business. It can also help you save money by reducing the number of accidents and insurance costs.
The standard contains seven clauses, but the most important are Clauses 1, 2, and 3. They require you to establish your OH&S requirements and then create an OH&S policy. Also, you need to examine the risks that are present within your company and take steps to mitigate the risks. Also, you must ensure that your employees are properly trained and equipped to prevent accidents. In addition, you should communicate with your employees and stakeholders about the importance of workplace safety and health. You can do this by organizing meetings, newsletters, or presentations.
